Green Guys
FAQ

Haven’t I seen you guys before in a different place?
Yes you have but we are no longer associated with that operation.

What is the relationship with OzGreens?
OzGreens is a Sydney based group with very similar objectives to GreenGuys. We are going to cooperate with OzGreens wherever possible in sourcing and distribution and sharing resources.

How do I purchase on this site?
You purchase coffee by selecting an option on a coffee poll. If you have not previously purchased coffee from GreenGuys you must provide a valid email, delivery address and contact number before your order is accepted. Your order is confirmed by an email requesting payment. You must pay for your purchase within 2 weeks or risk your order lapsing and passing to someone else.

What happens if a bag is fully allocated when I try to select an option?
Orders are placed on a first-come-first-served basis. If there is only a single bag of coffee available and your request cannot be filled you will be notified of this via email. If there is sufficient demand for a second bag of a popular coffee we will first check on availability, price and shipping before confirming or changing the price before sending you an invoice requesting payment.

How is the price of the coffee determined?
Our starting price is the cost to us from the supplier, plus delivery to us, plus packaging costs plus any other costs in running GreenGuys. Our costs will vary depending on the number of bags involved in a single (or combined) offer. The prices charged in the invoice may differ slightly from those shown for the poll on the web site but the overall pricing objective is to minimise overheads and therefore achieve the lowest possible pricing regime.

How do you choose the green beans you offer?
We maintain close contact with our suppliers to ensure we know about what beans are available and the schedules for new arrivals. We request samples of those that interest us and do a blind tasting comparison. We then compare notes and agree on what we will offer. Sometimes we make no choices and sometimes we like most coffees we try. Our rules in selecting coffees are that we only offer coffees we have tasted or know very well and we only offer coffees we are going to purchase for ourselves.

Why is 2.5kg the smallest purchase option for most coffees?
This is a very low overhead operation and one of the ways we keep our costs down is to minimise the work we must do in dividing and packaging coffee. An alternate way of looking at this is to compare the costs of 500 grams of roasted coffee ($12.50 to $20) with 2.5 kilos of green beans (at typically $7 per kilo). The roasted coffee will have a life of perhaps 2 weeks whereas the green beans will cost around the same amount and last 4 times longer at same rate of consumption. For some very rare or expensive coffees where only a few kilos are available the minimum package size could be much smaller.

Do I have to pay for shipping when I live in Melbourne?
No; particularly if you choose to participate in a distribution after which you simply take away your share of the green beans. Alternatively you may choose to collect your beans if that is convenient for you.

Can I suggest green beans I want to buy?
Yes you can but the final choice depends on price, availability and our confidence that there is sufficient demand to account for a complete bag.

How is GreenGuys different from other on-line sites offering green coffee beans?
We are enthusiasts who love coffee and the coffee adventure. This is the best way for us to be connected to the industry and positioned where we can taste a lot of different coffees and mix with people who share the same passion. Our niche is green beans. We don’t sell hardware. We don’t operate a forum because we think this space is already well catered to. We prefer to stay small and keep this as an interest rather than a commitment that demands all of our free time. We believe that with the booming coffee market there is ample scope for a multiple number of players who are able to differentiate themselves and stay focussed on what they are doing.
